Overview Fragments: Meditations on a broken pipe organ provides an insight at Thibault Mechler’s own approach of musicality. Composed during a one-week period of immersion, the recording features 7 pieces of slow, intimate harmonies performed on a Mutin Cavaillé-Coll organ, whose broken motor had to undergo maintenance at the time. As a result of that, the fragments of sounds that can be heard can no longer be reproduced today and thus stand as unique by the ephemeral soundscape they belong to.

With its raw organic sounds, Overview Fragments builds up intense sonorities that stretch out indefinitely through many layers of resonances, shaping the sounds according to its surroundings. The musical structure weaves around slowly, expanding as a living body within a reality where time and space no longer seem to exist as one whole entity. These intricate sounds, made of fluctuating vibrations, present as a sonic archive of narrations that can just as well be played outside any chronological order — and beyond any temporality.

Digitally processed and overlaid, these sound fragments are designed for acousmatic, immersive, multi-voice listening. Overview Fragments has been conceived for live performances on a 360° sound system or on pipe organ and is accompanied by a visual installation ("The Overview Project") created in duo with French artist Juliana Zepka.
